What seems like the mother of all battles between Gov Rochas Okorocha’s Rescue Mission Camp and the Allied Coalition Force led by Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is currently ongoing in Abuja as the two groups battle for who or who will not vote in the party’s national convention slated for Saturday
As at the time of going to the press, Nigeria Newspoint reliably gathered that the two camps were still throwing verbal brickbats about the delegates from the state qualified to cast vote that day.
While members of Gov Okorocha camp have gone to town to blow their trumpet to the effect that only the statutory delegates from the state would vote, coalition members say the governor’s camp are lying in a desperate attempt to deceive the people.
The statutory delegates from the state are former and serving members of the House of Representatives, former and serving speakers and their deputies, former and serving senators from the state as well as former and serving governor and their deputies, if all those listed are still in APC as at the time of the convention.
Similarly, the elected delegates include LGA Party Chairmen and their Secretaries, the state chairman and members of the state executive as well as LGA national delegates.
Sources told Nigeria Newspoint that Gov Okorocha who has temporarily relocated from Douglas House, seat of power in the state to Abuja. He is said to have been neck deep in plots to exclude Imo elected delegates from voting at the convention.
It was gathered that the governors serious push in this regard may not be unconnected with his fears that allowing the elected delegates to vote would put the final nail on the coffin of his camp with the public particularly Imolites, knowing that the Allied Forces have carried the day after the protracted battle.
The governor,it was also learnt has employed every known and unknown trick in his bid to scuttle the participation of elected delegates of the state including the story that made the rounds, yesterday (Thursday)that Gov Badru of Kebbi State ,who is the convention chairman had ruled that states with unsettled issues like Imo would not vote at the convention.
But, just as this story was gaining ground, the secretary of the coalition, Barr Kingsley Ononuju came out to debunk the story saying elected Imo delegates would vote on Saturday.
His position was corroborated by the State Deputy Chairman of the party, Hon Ugochukwu Nzekwe who dismissed the story being bandied about that Imo delegates would not vote.
According to the former two term legislator,Imo State delegates are ready and preparing for the exercise and would vote on that day.
As it stands now, it is clear that the last has not been heard about the Imo APC delegates issue but with the national convention committee not categorically listing the state as one with outstanding issues it means the elected delegates would most likely participate in the much awaited convention billed for this Saturday, tomorrow.
